2010 NMAHU LEGISLATION UPDATES
The Importance of Agents/Brokers
As Congress considers meaningful
proposals for national health reform, one key test of public approval
will be ensuring that all Americans have the ability to choose the
health insurance plan that best fits their needs and continued access to
the services of independent―and state licensed―agents, brokers and
consultants who serve as American’s consumer counselors and advocates. Americans

Agents, Brokers and Consultants,

are two “must reads” that provide valuable insight into the importance
of our role as advisors in today’s healthcare environment.
Our Stance on Healthcare Reform
Healthcare reform continues to be front and center
in both national and state legislative debates. Our efforts to
reach out to lawmakers to further our message of “keep it private” and
show them the importance of agents, brokers and consultants in
comprehensive health care reform and our opposition to a government-run
public plan is imperative. We encourage you to read
our
In-District Talking Points
so will become familiar with our stance and you too can help spread the
word.

Committee has created this
Library of Position Papers to help you better understand the pros
and cons of issues we face in New Mexico’s marketplace.
Communicating
Urgent Legislative Issues
Our legislative
success is based heavily on our ability to show legislators how
important issues are to us. When health care issues come to the
forefront of the political debate, it is vital to our legislative
efforts that elected officials know where we stand. In order to achieve
this, we rely on YOU to help us get the word out fast.
Depending on the
urgency, you will receive one of two forms of communication,
Operation Shout (email entitled Urgent Legislative Action) or
Legislative Phone Tree (phone call). Either way, you will be
provided with all the information necessary to reach out to your
legislators with concerns, support or opposition to policy questions, or
action needed.
Knowing
who your legislators are, will put you ahead of the curve
when you receive one of these urgent communications.
