Message from the President

-

Our membership is growing and our influence is increasing. We continue to work with other professional and business partners to strengthen our position as a key player in covering the uninsured. As the presidential, federal and local political races continue to dominate the news, we need to be prepared for whatever lies ahead. Together with our lobbyist, HUPAC and your legislative committee, we will continue to represent the broker and the health insurance industry with a strong voice. If you’ve been waiting for something earth shattering to happen before you get involved, wait no more. We can only do this if we all work together.

2009 NMAHU LEGISLATION UPDATES

Proposed Legislation

Learn more about legislative bills related to New Mexico's health insurance industry through our 2009 Legislative Recap Report (PDF - updated 6/1/09) and our 2009 Bill Report (PDF - updated 6/8/09) (expanded list of bills related to health and health insurance).

For more detailed information about proposed legislation, visit the New Mexico Legislature website.

NMAHU Position

Your state Legislative Committee has created this Library of Position Papers to help you better understand the pros and cons of issues we face in New Mexico’s marketplace.

Day on the Hill 2009

The theme of our collective association (National, State and Local entities) is “One Voice”. With that unified voice, we will have the greatest opportunity to keep our industry viable. It will take every one of us to educate our legislators and our community. Keeping informed is the key to our success. To help you stay informed, your Legislative Committee is hosting a panel discussion. The panelists are comprised of legislators, physicians and regulators who will present their proposed legislative bills and then be afforded an opportunity to answer your tough questions.  Please join us for a Day on the Hill.

Communicating Urgent Legislative Issues

Our legislative success is based heavily on our ability to show legislators how important issues are to us. When health care issues come to the forefront of the political debate, it is vital to our legislative efforts that elected officials know where we stand. In order to achieve this, we rely on YOU to help us get the word out fast.

Depending on the urgency, you will receive one of two forms of communication, Operation Shout (email entitled Urgent Legislative Action) or Legislative Phone Tree (phone call). Either way, you will be provided with all the information necessary to reach out to your legislators with concerns, support or opposition to policy questions, or action needed.  Knowing who your legislators are, will put you ahead of the curve when you receive one of these urgent communications.
